Clarity is a very important factor when valuing a diamond and has a grading scale all of its own, it literally refers to how clear the diamond is. As with the colour of a diamond, they are almost never completely clear and often contain trace minerals known as inclusions, the less inclusions a diamond has the rarer and more valuable it is. Inclusions can also affect the brilliance and sparkle of a diamond as they divert the light which reflects with in them. The table below shows the standards that grade the number, location, size, and type of inclusions which are present in a diamond.
